ConcreteDog

I build model rockets and run workshops on designing rockets also I have bootstrapped a cnc miller and make some small satellite components and am on numerous satellite pico satellite teams. I will bring a load of inert rockets and some example satellite chassis bits and will have examples of how to design stuff etc.

Jo, AKA Concretedog holds the current UK altitude record for A class rocketry, the smallest class of rocketry using the smallest motors. They used a clever combination of opensource design tools and 3D printing to set this record back in 2018.
Jo recently made some experimental opensource Hot Air balloons and wrote up their experiences in Hackspace magazine (you can download the issue for free here https://hackspace.raspberrypi.com/issues/61 . Jo plans to float a large lightweight balloon on the festival day! Look out for flight time information in the festival foyer!
Jo developed this “Swing wing rocket glider” for Hackspace magazine, It’s a weird transformer in that it flies up like a rocket with all it’s wings stashed away and then at the top of the flight transforms out into a plane to glide back to ground. Come and ask for a demo of this at their stall!
As well as huge complex rockets Jo also occasionally builds funny ones from weird materials! A popular design was their DSTAX rocket, made from a Doritoes tube!
Jo is an advocate for the use of free and opensource tools for making. As such he wrote a free to download book for the Raspberry Pi Press on FreeCAD. This book is great if you want to learn 3D modelling for 3Dprinting, Lasercutting and more! Feel free to download a copy here https://hackspace.raspberrypi.com/books/freecad
