Gary Millar

Gary Millar is running a special business advice desk at Makefest on the ground floor from 11am for any makers and creatives who would like some business or intellectual property advice.

He is an Old Swan Councillor; business owner; mentor; Liverpool’s former Lord Mayor; and the City’s strategic lead for business, enterprise and investment. He is also the Liverpool Business & IP Centre’s Entrepreneur in Residence.  He offers free of charge business guidance for those looking to start or grow a business.

His Entrepreneur in Residence drop-in takes place in on the first floor of Liverpool Central Library every Thursday from 1 to 4pm. He has set-up a number of businesses and has provided business guidance to well over 10,000 people.  A key member of Liverpool’s Elected Mayor’s Cabinet – leading on its business, enterprise and investment strategy and a diversity and equality champion, “Pay It Forward” evangelist, entrepreneur and fundraiser.

Co-owning Parr Street Studios and creating and designing its Hotel, PodZzz and bar STUDIO2 (UK top 50 best bar).  He has created and organised key events (e.g. International Festival of Motorsport – 300 historic cars worth £70m and a historic Grand Prix track).  He has invented two building products and produced five music albums.  He is also Liverpool’s Business Ambassador at home and overseas.

Gary moved here from Edinburgh in 1983 to study computing and business at Liverpool Polytechnic and it has been his adopted home ever since. His other interests include photography, design and art.
