“90% OF FURNITURE SOLD IN THE UK IS DESTINED FOR LANDFILL!” – Adam Green

THE UK DUMPS 300,000 TONNES OF BULKY REUSABLE ITEMS OF FURNITURE ANNUALLY!

Hi, I’m Karen, founder of Re-jiggery. My work is predominantly upholstery, soft furnishings and furniture painting commissions. I also run upholstery workshops and eco crafting socials. With a background in Environmental Science sustainability continues to be my driving force. An eco conscious approach is taken to each and every aspect of my work, whether it’s rescuing items from landfill, reusing and/or recycling materials, or simply promoting friendlier alternatives to environmentally damaging and toxic materials.

I’m constantly striving to minimise my waste by crafting smaller items using my own off-cuts or waste fabrics foraged from the community and local businesses. Anything I can’t use I re-distribute to local community ventures and organisations who can. Even my tiniest fabric scraps are used to fill items like pouffes, door-stops and toys.

I’m delighted to be participating in Liverpool Makefest 2024, where I’ll be sharing information about the negative environmental and health impacts of modern upholstery manufacturing processes and materials and introducing a variety of eco-friendly/sustainable and healthier options currently available on the market.
