In the run up to Liverpool MakeFest 2023 in July there are some other events happening at the library we thought you might like to know about.
In keeping with our “retro” 1963 theme for this year we have BeatFest. A free event taking place all day Saturday June 17th from 9:30am to 5pm.

Celebrating both the full return this year of our ‘White Heat of Technology’ event Liverpool Makefest, and the Liverpool 1963 How did we do it? Merseybeat exhibition, we’ve created a special family friendly day packed with activities, talks, live music, choirs and much more including….
- Performances in the afternoon by Cavern headliners ‘The Shakers’ in the family friendly Discover Library.
- A talk by artist and children’s book author Tina Freeman, who’ll be reading from of some of her brilliant Beatle and Mod themed children’s books.
- Attend a Q+A with Helen Anderson, co art school attendee and lifelong friend of John Lennon who designed and created his famous leather peaked caps. Helen has had a long career in the fashion industry since she opened her boutique in Bold St in 1962 and has many friends from the local Merseybeat bands. So, get your questions ready!
- Accompany the celebrated music historian Spencer Leigh as he guides you around the Liverpool 1963 exhibition.
- Meet the Mods! view some great scooters and have your photo taken with a pink Cadillac as local scooter clubs descend on the library to join in the fun in support of the Teenage Cancer Trust
There’s a full programme of events and performances all day and ‘Who’ knows you might even spot a Dalek.
